BIDDEFORD, Maine – The Roger Williams University men's lacrosse team used an eight-goal first half run to pull away for the University of New England on its way to an 18-10 victory in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's lacrosse action at UNE Blue Bolt Field on Saturday afternoon.
Noah Ravas put the Hawks in front to start the day, but
Jack Martin answered quickly for UNE to tie the score 1-1 at the 12:36 mark of the first quarter. Ravas later found Tim Mullane for a goal, his first of a game-high five, with 10:12 to play in the period to put Roger Williams back in front.
Alden Balboni fought off a defender and took it into the zone for a goal to tie the game at 2-2 with 8:45 left in the first [

Sam McGregor backed down a Hawk defender and spun in for a score to give UNE its first lead of the day at 3-2 [

Roger Williams rolled off an 8-0 run from that point spanning the rest of the first quarter until the 8:27 mark of the second to jump ahead 10-3. Jared Grier scored three goals and dished off two assists during the stretch.
The Nor'easters wouldn't go away easily and answered with a four-goal spur of their own to pull within three at 10-7 with 2:59 until halftime. McGregor found

Ryan Hazard, and Martin also scored during the stretch. Matt Halpin added a goal for the Hawks with 1:15 left in the second to put the visitors up 11-7 at the break.
Penalties hurt the Nor'easters in the third quarter as Roger Williams scored four man-up goals as part of a 6-0 run to start the half as it pulled away to a 16-7 lead. The Hawks were 6-of-9 with a man advantage on the afternoon.
The Nor'easters trailed by as many as 10 in the second half, but outscored the Hawks 2-1 in the fourth quarter. Balboni scored his second of the day, unassisted, with 10:14 to play. Hazard scooped up a ground ball on the defensive end and ran through a defender before finding Lawrence for UNE's final goal. [

Shots were close with the Hawks holding a 38-33 advantage. The visitors also led in ground balls 39-26.
Cole Ventimiglia grabbed four ground balls and had a team-high five caused turnovers in the loss. Hunter Goodrow had five caused turnovers and three ground balls for Roger Williams.
Matt Deyette started in goal for UNE and made five saves over the first three quarters.
Kyle Prior stopped five of six shots in the fourth. Max Kimmel (8) and Duncan Gillis (2) combined for 10 saves for the Hawks.
The Nor'easters finish the regular season at Curry on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
