Franzen tabbed Player of the Year; three others All-CCC

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- University of New England sophomore guard Jordyn Franzen has been voted as the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Player of the Year, as the women's basketball awards for the 2021-22 season were released Tuesday (Feb. 22) by CCC Associate Commissioner Doug Chin.

Franzen becomes the sixth Nor'easter labeled with the league's top honor, seven years removed from the most recent, and is the youngest conference member (by grade) to receive the distinction since 2005-06.

After Franzen's 1st Team nod from the 10 head coaches, senior guard Abby Cavallaro garnered 2nd Team status -- her third all-conference pick in as many years of postseason honors. Landing spots on the CCC 3rd Team were senior forward Allie Goodman and junior forward Kaylee Beyor.

The second-seeded Nor'easters are entertaining No.7 Western New England University later tonight in the quarterfinal round of the 2022 CCC Women's Basketball Championship [Interactive Bracket]. UNE won both meetings against the Golden Bears during the season -- first, orchestrating a rally from down 17 in the 3rd for an 80-73 OT road victory on January 8, and then taking a 74-66 result at home on February 5.
