NORTHAMPTON, Mass. -- The College of New Jersey went on a 17-4 run spanning the end of the 3rd quarter and beginning of the 4th to extend to a 63-51 women's basketball decision against the University of New England on Sunday afternoon (Nov. 13) in Ainsworth Gymnasium at Smith College's Tyler Tip-Off Tournament.
Julia Setaro paced the Lions (2-1) with 19 points. Izzy Leazier and Nina Branchizio tallied 13 points apiece, and Leazier had a team-best eight rebounds.
The Nor'easters (1-2) received 10 points and five boards from All-Tournament Team member
Jordyn Franzen, while
Cameron Watkins notched 10 points to go with a game-high nine rebounds.
Gabby Soter supported with nine points.
Setaro dropped in eight during the 1st period to help TCNJ out to an 11-2 lead and 15-9 cushion heading into the 2nd. UNE responded with seven in-a-row to tie things at 24-all inside the last minute before the half, but a hoop by Leazier put the Lions back on top at the break.
It was 32-31 with 2:09 left in the 3rd, however, by the 7:14 mark of the final frame, to gap had grown to 49-35.
The Nor'easters pay a visit to Saint Joseph's College of Maine on Wednesday.
