BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Tournament Most Outstanding Player Kyler Bosse put up a double-double of 31 points and 10 rebounds to lead Plymouth State University past the University of New England men's basketball team, 75-48, to close out the Jim Beaudry Classic on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 12) at Coach Beaudry's Court inside the Harold Alfond Forum.
The Panthers (2-1) won both games during the event, by an average of nearly 30 points. Kevin Henry and Giorgi Tsiklauri joined Bosse on the All-Tournament Team for PSU.
Drake Gavin earned a spot for the Nor'easters (1-2), while Pharaoh Davis of Rivier University and Griffin Guerrette from the University of Maine-Presque Isle claimed the remaining accolades. In Saturday's first matchup, Rivier held off UMPI by a 62-58 margin.
After Bosse, Plymouth State received 16 points, six boards, and three steals from Henry. Seven points apiece came from Tsiklauri and Rylan Canabano, while Elijah Swanson collected six points, eight rebounds, and five steals. The Panthers had a 50-35 advantage on the glass and pressured the hosts into 21 turnovers, which resulted in 29 points -- mostly on the break (20-0), and many in the paint (42-12).
For UNE,
Ant Moynihan hit 5-of-11 three-pointers to finish with 16 points. Gavin added 13 points.
The teams exchanged large runs throughout much of the 1st half. First, 12 in-a-row by PSU made for a 14-6 lead, but then a 16-4 stretch for the Nor'easters marked a 24-22 edge. Moynihan and Gavin each netted seven during the span. However, the final lead-change of the day came with a 10-0 spurt from the visiting squad (32-24), half of which were from the hands of Bosse. The Panthers settled on the 36-31 cushion at halftime.
Eight unanswered began the 2nd period to push the gap into double digits for good (44-31). Another 15 consecutive put things out-of-reach (71-43) by the 6:30 mark.
UNE will make its first road trip of the young season on Wednesday, heading for the University of Maine-Farmington.
