Davenport, Reilly fuel UNE over Curry, 3-1

Statistics

MILTON, Mass. -- Lauren Davenport smacked down 19 kills and Kailyn Reilly notched 10 service aces to lead the University of New England in a 3-1 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's volleyball victory (25-14, 20-25, 25-20, 25-13) versus Curry College in Katz Gymnasium on Tuesday evening (Oct. 4).

The Nor'easters (4-10, 2-2 CCC) have now defeated the Colonels (3-13, 0-3 CCC) in each of the 11 all-time meetings between the institutions.

Davenport turned in her sixth double-double of the year, made from the match-best in kills and 10 digs. Viktoria Pavlyuk added six winners for an attack that received 17 assists out of Emma Chase, who also recorded 10 digs.

Reilly's ace tally equaled the second-highest count during a match in the last 20 years of the UNE program. In 2005, separate three-set matches had players record 13 and 10 aces that top the list to this day.

The Nor'easters amassed 23 aces as a group, which included another four from Morgan Lynch and three by Griffin Chaffin-Quiray. Defensively, Chaffin-Quiray had 10 digs and Lynch picked up nine more.

For Curry, Lauren Guzman accounted for 12 kills with the help of the 17 assists by Brooke Reissfelder. Reissfelder also led all players with 18 digs, and Avia Fraine contributed 12. Amber Buttaro chipped in with eight digs, while notching five service aces.

UNE led for the entirety of the 1st set, aided by a 14-2 run to break away from a 6-4 contest early on. The Colonels leveled the match after two sets, though, as an 8-1 stretch in the 2nd created enough of a lead (13-6) that the visitors could only only ever reduce to three.

In the 3rd, with the Nor'easters up, 17-16, a block from Reilly and Mary Haley sent Reilly back to serve and UNE seized control again. The largest advantage in the stanza (22-16) soon followed, after one of Reilly's service winners and two kills by Davenport.

The teams exchanged the initial six points in the 4th, but by the time it was 9-3 in favor of UNE, Reilly had collected five aces in the set. The Nor'easters rolled from there.

UNE will next take the court at Maine Maritime Academy on Friday.
