Emily Martin scored a goal and assisted on two others to help the University of New England to a 3-2 victory over the Wentworth Institute of the Technology in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) matchup on Wednesday afternoon.
After a scoreless first half, the Nor'easters (8-4-3, 3-1-3 CCC) got on the board early in the second. Martin's shot was saved by Leopard goaltender Juliana Heaton and
Grace Wargo cleaned up the rebound for her first goal of the season in the 49th minute.
Diana Bruggeman answered back for Wentworth (7-6-2, 2-4-1 CCC) just over a minute later with a goal to the low right side. Martin booted a shot off the crossbar and in in the 51st minute to give the Nor'easters back the lead. In the 58th minute, Martin found
Lizzie Frattaroli for a goal as Frattaroli found the back of the net from 25 yards out to put UNE in front 3-1.
The Leopards trimmed the deficit to 3-2 in the 75th minute as a shot by Madison Wolf deflected off
Ariel Martin and in. Adriana Valenti and Maria Selman assisted on the goal.
The victory puts the Nor'easters in third place in the conference at 12 points with just two games remaining. UNE is just two points behind first place Curry and one behind Western New England.
Ariel Martin backstopped the win for UNE with six saves. Heaton also had six saves in the loss for Wentworth.
The Nor'easters visit Nichols on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.
