BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The University of New England women's volleyball squad displayed a balanced and efficient attack while holding the University of Maine-Presque Isle in the negative, picking up a 3-0 (25-2, 25-18, 25-11) triumph at Coach Beaudry's Court inside the Harold Alfond Forum on Saturday evening (Oct. 15).
After posting a season-best .500 hitting percentage during a match earlier in the week, the Nor'easters (6-12) were effective at .392 clip to defeat the Owls (3-16). On the other side, UMPI was limited to -.065 by the UNE defense.
Olivia Hand paced the hosts with a season-high 12 kills.
Kailyn Reilly,
Viktoria Pavlyuk, and
Grace Mueller went for eight, seven, and six winners, respectively, and all four players rated out above the team hitting average.
Addie Miller did work on both sides of the ball, notching a double-double of 33 assists and 11 digs.
The back-line effort received 17 digs from
Griffin Chaffin-Quiray, and 10 more out of
Lauren Davenport.
Morgan Lynch served 20 times in the opening set, with three aces, as the Nor'easters totally dominated the Owls. UMPI's two points in the stanza came from UNE miscues.
UMaine Presque Isle captured the initial six points of the 2nd, but an eventual 11-0 run by the home side restored control of the scoreboard (20-13). Pavlyuk and Hand each had three kills in the spurt.
The Nor'easters kept rolling from there, getting point contributions from nine different players in the 3rd set.
For the Owls, Alexis Engel had three kills and Makayla Miskiewicz totaled 13 digs.
UNE gets back to its Commonwealth Coast Conference slate the rest of the way, beginning with a visit to Salve Regina University on Tuesday.
