Curley scores twice to lift UNE over Curry, 4-2, in Teddy Bear Toss Game

BIDDEFORD, Maine Carolyn Curley scored two goals in front of a record crowd at the Harold Alfond Forum as the University of New England defeated Curry College, 4-2, in the 6th Annual Teddy Bear Toss women's hockey game on Friday evening.
 
Curley scored the opening goal at the 12:43 mark of the opening period as her shot trickled past Curry goaltender Anna Langton and into the net. Maeve Crehan and Jenna Pych assisted on the early score. [Watch]
 
Meghan Hamilton put in a feed from Grace Arsenault just over a minute later to extend the Nor'easter lead out to 2-0 after a period [Watch]. Raquel Ade also recorded an assist on the goal.
 
UNE held a wide margin in shots all night, but Curry made it interesting in the second period. Ali Olorenshaw cut the deficit in half with a goal from the blue line that hit the crossbar and dropped in midway through. Rowan Nasty tied the game 2-2 for the Colonels with 7:56 to play in the period.
 
The Nor'easters grabbed momentum back with another goal by Curley as the junior forced a turnover in the corner and skated into the slot to score her second of the day at the 5:33 mark of the second [Watch]. Bella Crugnale redirected a blast from Eliana Kane with 3:38 to play in the period to put the game out of reach [Watch]. Curley made it three-point night for herself with an assist on the final goal.
 
UNE (5-9-1, 5-5-1 CCC) finished with a 44-25 advantage in shots. Delanie Corcoran earned the victory in net with 23 stops. Langton made 40 saves in the loss for Curry (3-12-0, 1-8-0 CCC).
 
The Teddy Bear Toss is an annual tradition put on by the Harold Alfond Forum Building Managers in support of the United Way of Southern Maine. The attendance at the game was 690, the most ever in program history.
 
UNE and Curry battle again tomorrow afternoon at the Canton Ice House in Canton, Mass. at 2:50 p.m.
