PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Keene State College secured a 3-1 decision (25-15, 25-22, 19-25, 25-14) over the University of New England in a women's volleyball matchup Saturday (Sep. 18) at the Wildcat Center on the campus of Johnson & Wales University.
The Owls (7-3) used a balanced attack which included eight kills from Sydney Johnson and seven by both EmilyAnn Ashford and Cassidy Samuelson. Elizabeth Johnson added 10.5 points, mostly on seven service aces. Kacie Blanchet had 28 assists and Reagan Fleming saved 15 digs.
UNE's trio of
Lauren Davenport,
Viktoria Pavlyuk, and
Stephanie Erickson went for 12, 10, and nine kills, respectively.
Addie Miller totaled 31 assists for the Nor'easters (2-6). Erickson served up five aces to top the squad in points.
Paige Weatherbee registered 17 digs, while Davenport and Miller contributed another eight each.
Keene State gained the first seven points of the contest and never looked back in the initial set. The Owls were up, 8-4, in the 2nd, only to see UNE run off a 12-2 spurt to take a 16-10 lead. But another string on eight consecutive points flipped the advantage back (22-19) for KSC and a commanding cushion.
The Nor'easters split the difference (2-sets-to-1) with a closing 10-4 push in the 3rd. However, KSC rattled off an equally dominant run (14-3) to seal things in the 4th.
