Roger Williams races past UNE, 17-10

BRISTOL, R.I. – Jared Grier scored a game-high seven goals to lead Roger Williams University past the University of New England, 17-10, in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's lacrosse action at Bayside Field on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Nor'easters led early as Alex York scored with help from Gavin Tanis. Tanis added a goal of his own to give UNE a 2-1 lead with 8:17 to go in the first. Grier and Andrew Gaffney answered for the Hawks as they pulled in front for good late in the quarter.
 
Roger Williams scored the first four of the second quarter, all within a 1:41 span to take their largest lead of the half at 7-2. Ryan Hazard and Colin Watt cut the deficit to three at the 4:24 mark before two goals in the final minute of the half gave the hosts a 9-4 advantage at the break.
 
The hosts led by as many as 11 in the second half. UNE sparked a late comeback, scoring the final four goals of the game.
 
Tim Mullane finished with seven points on two goals and five assists to go with four ground balls and two caused turnovers for the Hawks. Gaffney had three scores in the victory.
 
Sam Palmisano had a team-high four points for UNE, and was joined by York and Watt with two goals apiece. Jared Duffy grabbed eight ground balls. Chase Walter finished with four ground balls and three caused turnovers.
 
Kameron Bouvier and Kyle Prior each made five saves in the loss for the Nor'easters. Ryan Bannon earned the victory in net with seven saves over the first three quarter of play.
 
UNE returns home on Wednesday against Nichols at 3 p.m.
