WATERVILLE, Maine -- The University of New England women's swimming team placed fifth out of the seven institutions challenging at the Maine Meet, which concluded Saturday (Dec. 4) at the Harold Alfond Athletics and Recreation Center on the campus of Colby College.
Bates College (1209), Colby (1008), Bowdoin College (785), and the University of Maine-Orono (555) used depth to generate large point totals, with the Nor'easters next at 134.
UNE's total relay groups in the three versions each gained 18 points for the squad. The 200-yard medley of
Haley Griffin,
Annika Doeppers,
Olivia Roy, and
April Falstad clocked a 2:01.90.
Kheara Zito,
Katie Durrua,
Sophie Piette, and
Jamie Roy did the 200 freestyle in 1:50.49, and Griffin, Durrua, Doeppers, and Falstad combined for 4:04.90 in the 400 freestyle. The Nor'easters accumulated 94 points, in all, from relay swims.
Individually, Durrua had a pair of top-10 showings, coming in the 100 butterfly (6th; 1:01.78) and 200 butterfly (7th; 2:21.65) -- worth 25 points.
Doeppers earned five points from three different events. Her 2:44.51 in the 200 breaststroke accounted for three, while the 50 breaststroke (33.96) and 400 IM (5:15.58) were one apiece.
Taylor Gibson took home five with a 20:50.63 in the 1,650 freestyle.
Mary Washlick (3) and
Alex Kendall (2) weren't far behind on the list.
Griffin was the top Nor'easter in four other solo events.
UNE is back in action January 15 at home against Maine Maritime Academy.
