BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Jessica D'Auria and Alexa Cacacie racked up 19 and 16 kills, respectively, to pace Maine Maritime Academy back from a one-set deficit for a 3-1 women's volleyball victory (22-25, 25-17, 25-21, 25-20) versus the University of New England on Saturday afternoon (Aug. 31) at the Harold Alfond Forum.
The Nor'easters (2-1) took four of the final five points to secure the initial frame, but trailed nearly the entire way in the 2nd as things evened up. UNE got out to a 15-8 cushion in the 3rd, however a 9-1 spurt by the Mariners (2-1) produced the only lead-change in the session. The home side led by a pair (11-9) as the 4th heated up, but MMA gained the edge for good at 13-12 after breaking away from the ninth tie of the set.
D'Auria also collected 17 digs in her double-double for Maine Maritime. Cacacie led the squad with 23 points, factoring in six blocks and adding three aces. Sydney Adams guided the duo with 45 assists, and Maria Perez posted a match-high 25 digs. Avery O'Neal saved 10 more and dropped in four service aces.
UNE's effort featured 10 kills and 17 digs out of
Molly Camelo, while
Katie Flynn,
Paige Simoneau, and
Micaela McNamara combined for another 22 winners.
Sydney Christiansen framed 32 assists for the attack, and
Katie Marsh scooped up 21 digs.
