BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The University of New England softball squad picked wins by margins of 5-4 and 10-2 (5 innings) against the University of Maine-Presque Isle on Saturday afternoon (Apr. 6) at Nor'easter Diamond.

The Nor'easters (13-8) will host Salve Regina University for a Commonwealth Coast Conference pair on Sunday (12 p.m.). The Owls drop back to 8-6 overall.

Avery Alberghini went 5-for-5 on the day, increasing her batting average to .565 and season-long hitting streak to 19 games. She also swiped four bases to reach 24 on the year. Alexis Kapsambelis and Zea Macris each totaled three hits in support for UNE.

Kate Wilmot recorded the victory in GAME 1 (UNE 5-4), going six innings with six strikeouts before Jordan Strum finished it off with a four-batter save.

Already up 1-0 in the bottom of the 1st, Sarah Lachapelle bounced a double over the center field fence to score another. Alberghini singled in one to make it 3-0 in the 2nd, and a single from Gabby Harrison in the 3rd plated Andrea Gosper for a second time to set the margin at 5-0.

UMaine Presque Isle was kept off the board until the 6th, when Sarah Duncklee's second hit put one run across. Melanee Terry notched an RBI-single on the next play to make it 5-2, before a two-out single by Roni Shaw trimmed the spread to just one.

Brookelynn Garcia took the setback in the circle for UMPI.

Alberghini tallied three hits in the shortened GAME 2 (UNE 10-2) triumph, while Gosper and Anna Sessa both had two for the Nor'easters. Alie Martell secured her first pitching decision in four innings of work; neither of the runs were earned, and she fanned three without surrendering any walks.

UNE scored in all five frames, beginning with Alberghini after a lead-off single in the 1st. The Owls, however, got two with the aid of a two-base error in the top of the 2nd to gain a brief edge.

The Nor'easters answered right back in their half of the 2nd, though, with the first of Sessa's two RBI plating Gosper, Kaitlin Carson grounding out to score Harrison, and Alberghini sending Sessa home for a 4-2 lead. Gosper drove in Taylor Depot with a single in the 3rd, and Kapsambelis knocked in two (Sessa, Alberghini) with a hit in the 4th as UNE assumed a 7-2 advantage.

After a sacrifice fly and RBI-groundout in the 5th, Diana Roher ended things with a single into the right-center gap that allowed Ali Kuechler to touch with the winning run.

Savannah Borland was charged with the loss for UMPI in three innings of action.
