LAS VEGAS -- Nationally-ranked George Fox University picked up an 80-45 women's basketball result against the University of New England at the 10th Annual
D3hoops.com Classic from South Point Arena on Sunday night (Dec. 29).
A day after dealing No.2 Scranton University its first loss of the season, the No.9 Bruins improve to 8-1. It was a third setback versus elite competition for the Nor'easters (8-3), who had previously dropped outings to teams currently at No.1 and No.3 in the poll.
Kylin Collman was the only George Fox player in double figures with 23 points, which was highlighted by 6-of-7 makes from downtown. Haley Strowbridge scored nine and Kaylee Bishop added eight. Emily Stephens collected seven rebounds to help her side post a 42-21 advantage on the boards.
The Bruins shot 46 percent from the floor and canned 11 treys, as opposed to the 41 percent and four triples by UNE. GFU registered 27 points off 18 Nor'easter turnovers, and produced 18 second-chance points from 16 offensive caroms.
Jocelyn Chaput paced UNE with 12 points -- all coming before halftime -- and landed All-Tournament Team honors.
Abby Cavallaro contributed seven points and
Allie Goodman came off the bench to tally six.
George Fox turned an early 8-6 edge into a 21-8 lead through 10 minutes. The Nor'easters trimmed things to 26-19, only to see the Bruins use a four-minute stretch to build the cushion to 39-20. A three-pointer by Chaput capped the 2nd quarter; Collman was slightly better with 15 of her points at the break. A 25-9 difference in the 3rd put the game out-of-reach.
