DUDLEY, Mass. -- Two goals in the opening 9:12 started the University of New England towards its fourth consecutive win, a 3-0 defeat of Nichols College on Friday afternoon (Sep. 21) in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) field hockey action at Vendetti Field.
The Nor'easters now stand at 4-4 overall and 3-0 in league matches. The last 12 meetings versus the Bison (4-2, 2-1 CCC) have gone to UNE.
Kersey Boulay and
Kendra MacDonald scored less than three minute apart in the early-going to give the visitors an edge. In the 26th minute,
Nicole Grady padded the cushion to three, and that margin held the rest of the way.
Liz Sargent benefited from a stingy defense in front of her, as she only needed to make one save for UNE's first shutout of the year. The Nor'easters finished with a 25-5 advantage in shots, putting Nichols' Brooke Misbach to work for nine saves.
