Southern Maine holds off UNE in sweep

CASTINE, Maine -- The University of Southern Maine battled past the University of New England by a 3-0 margin (25-22, 26-24, 25-21) in women's volleyball action Saturday morning (Sep.1) at Smith Gymnasium on the campus of Maine Maritime Academy.

Kacey Foerster had 10 kills to guide the Huskies (1-1), while Kylee Austin tacked on eight more. Nicole Schmitz ended with 22 assists and 12 digs; Lauren Delissio led the squad with 16 digs.

The match-high of 13 kills came from Rene Roggenbuck, who also factored in five of her side's six blocks for the Nor'easters (1-1). Katie Flynn posted a double-double of 10 kills and 20 digs, and Sydney Christiansen framed 28 assists. Paige Simoneau and Katie Marsh contributed to the back-line effort with 16 and 11 digs, respectively.

UNE next heads for Emerson College on Wednesday (5:30 p.m.).
