CASTINE, Maine -- Maine Maritime Academy escaped a tightly-contested opening set on the way to a 3-0 result (28-26, 25-12, 25-22) versus the University of New England women's volleyball team on Saturday afternoon (Sep.1) at Smith Gymnasium.
Rachel Melampy guided the Mariners (2-0) with a double-double of 17 kills and 16 digs. Seven winners came from Alexa Cacacie, while Sydney Adams contributed four aces with 30 assists. Maria Perez led all players with 21 digs.
For the Nor'easters (1-2),
Rene Roggenbuck had five kills and
Sydney Christiansen recorded 15 assists. Defensively,
Katie Flynn had 17 digs and
Katie Marsh accumulated 15 more.
UNE next heads for Emerson College on Wednesday (5:30 p.m.).
