CLERMONT, Fla. -- Framingham State University cracked 14 hits on the way to 15-7 softball decision (5 innings) against the University of New England on Friday (Mar. 16) in the Dot Richardson Spring Games hosted by the U.S. National Training Center.
Megan Downing had a game-high three hits for the Rams (4-6), and was one of four players -- with Mycala Moody, Camille Desrochers, and Kyla Johnson -- to score multiple times. Moody, Grace Caughey, Dayna Marchant, and Kirsten Dick all had two hits, and Caughey racked up four RBI. Relief pitcher Claire DeLuca got the win.
For the Nor'easters (5-5),
Alexis Kapsambelis and
Melissa Jakubowski had two hits; Jakubowski also scored twice.
Sydnee Bessler was charged with the setback for UNE, which plated four runs in the top of the 2nd inning to tie the contest. However, Framingham State countered with five in its half of the 2nd and six more in the 3rd to seize control.
The Nor'easters return to Maine and are slated to begin their Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) schedule on Saturday (Mar. 24) at Curry College.
