CLERMONT, Fla. -- Suffolk University scored six runs in the 2nd inning on the way to a 7-4 softball decision against the University of New England on Sunday morning (Mar. 11) in the Dot Richardson Spring Games hosted by the U.S. National Training Center.
The Rams (2-1) did all their work with one out in the frame. Three RBI-singles, a bases-loaded wild pitch, and a two-RBI double by Devlin Frost established the 6-0 cushion.
Sam Dreissig got the Nor'easters (0-1) on the board in the top of the 3rd with a two-out RBI-double.
It was 7-2 entering the 6th inning before
Avery Alberghini tripled to plate a pair of runs to get UNE closer, but the next four Nor'easters were retired to seal the result.
Payton Sylvester and Jaclyn Flint led the Suffolk offense with two hits apiece. Constance Phelan pitched the initial five innings to earn the victory.
Meg Harvey notched a team-high two hits for UNE.
Kaitlin Carson,
Alexis Kapsambelis, and
Caty Flagg each had a hit and scored once. Sydness Bessler took the loss in the circle.
