CLERMONT, Fla. -- The Coast Guard Academy had two at-bats that produced a combined 12 runs during a 13-4Â softball result (5 innings) over the University of New England on Sunday afternoon (Mar. 11) in the Dot Richardson Spring Games hosted by the U.S. National Training Center.
Casey Cruzpino led the Bears (3-0), going 3-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored. Courtney McKenna drove in a team-high three runs without a hit, and Charlee Kraiss had a squad-best three runs to go with a hit and two RBI. Emma Hvozdovich chipped in with two hits and two RBI, while Audrey Bartz also plated a pair.
Four UNE errors aided the Coast Guard scoring throughout the game, which jumped to 8-0 with a seven-run top of the 2nd inning.
The Nor'easters (0-2) sliced the deficit in half (8-4) in the their portion of the 2nd, highlighted by a two-RBI single by
Caty Flagg.
However, five more for the Bears in the 5th put CGA over the top. Sydney Arendt picked up the win in the circle, going 3.2 innings of scoreless elief with four strikeouts.
Avery Alberghini had a hit, run, and RBI for UNE.
