LEWISTON, Maine -- Julia Middlebrook hit a three-pointer with three seconds remaining in double overtime to lift Bates College to an 86-85 women's basketball result against the University of New England on Sunday (Nov. 25) at Alumni Gymnasium.

The Nor'easters had led for the previous 3:28 of the session, and had a 12-foot runner in the lane to win it as time expired, but the shot was a bit too strong.

It was just the second basket of the day for Middlebrook, who totaled six points and five assists. Both sides were depleted at the end, with three double-digit scorers apiece having already fouled out.

Meghan Graff paced the Bobcats (3-0) with 17 points. Mia Roy, Ariana Dalia, and Melanie Binkhorst went for 16, 14, and 11 points respectively, before heading to the bench for good during the initial extra period.

Bates connected on 9-of-18 attempts from deep in the contest, while going 29-for-40 at the line. UNE hit 3-of-6 tries from long distance, and made 20-for-33 in free throws.

For the Nor'easters (2-4), Ashley Coneys posted a game-high 21 points before her fifth foul forced an exit with three minutes left. Elyssa Nicholas drained all three of her shots from behind the arc and closed with 14 points in support. Jocelyn Chaput registered a double-double of 13 points and career-best 15 rebounds, prior to fouling out with four minutes to go in regulation. Sadie Nelson, who had to leave the match moments into the first overtime frame, finished with 12 points.

UNE returns home for a date with No.17 Saint Joseph's College of Maine on Wednesday (5:30 p.m.).
