Nor'easters drop Golden Bears, 3-1

NORTON, Mass. -- Katie Flynn racked up 16 kills and 15 digs to help the University of New England women's volleyball squad defeat Western New England University by a 3-1 margin (25-23, 25-23, 19-25, 25-16) on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 13) at Emerson Gymnasium on the campus of Wheaton College.

Molly Camelo and Sydney Christiansen joined Flynn with double-doubles; Camelo totaled 10 kills and 17 digs, while Christiansen put up 37 assists to go with 14 digs. The Nor'easters (8-13) were busy on the back-line, with a team-high 20 digs from Katie Marsh and another 16 by Paige Simoneau.

For the Golden Bears (8-15), who had topped UNE by the same margin in their league match back on September 22, Cassandra Holmes notched 17 kills. The attack received 11 winners from Hailey McDonnell and 40 assists out of Jenna McCormack, who also recorded 14 digs. Defensively for WNEU, Caleigh McDermott totaled 27 digs, Jenna Ferguson added 19 more, and Zoe Tatro finished with 14 digs.

The Nor'easters travel to Endicott College for a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) date on Wednesday (7 p.m.).
