First-half push lifts Bowdoin over UNE

BRUNSWICK, Maine -- Bowdoin College began a 21-0 run in the last minute of the 1st quarter, separating from the University of New England on the way to a 91-59 women's basketball win on Tuesday evening (Nov. 21) at Morrell Gymnasium.

After five lead-changes in the opening moments, the Polar Bears (3-0) built on a 17-15 advantage in a span of less than five minutes to go up 38-15 before the midway mark of the 2nd period.

Pacing the Bowdoin offense was Taylor Choate with 22 points and six assists, while Kate Kerrigan registered 18 points and eight rebounds. Lauren Petit contributed 14 points, largely behind four treys; Choate, Kerrigan, and Petit combined to make 9-of-15 from three-point range. Lydia Caputi also collected eight boards, helping the hosts to a 56-38 margin on the glass.

For the Nor'easters (3-1), Olivia Shaw put up a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds, in addition to five assists and five blocks. Sam MacDonald and Ashley Coneys added 15 and 11 points, respectively.

UNE resumes action on Monday (6 p.m.) at home against Bates College.
