QUINCY, Mass. -- The University of New England Nor'easters started their Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) schedule with a 3-0 win over Eastern Nazarene College in a women's volleyball match played
Wednesday evening (Sept. 24)Â at the Lahue Physical Education Center. Set scores were 25-11, 25-15, 25-17.
The win snapped a seven-match losing streak for the Nor'easters (3-8, 1-0 CCC), who have taken 11 consecutive meetings with Eastern Nazarene. The Lions now stand at 1-12 overall, 0-1 in conference play.
Leah Janelle and
Grayson Szczepaniak each had seven kills to lead the UNE attack.
Rachel McGahie and
Courtney Lambrese added six apiece, while
Erika Sawicki finished with five.
Brooke Gibbons played a strong all-around match, registering 27 assists, four service aces and three block assists. Big Blue fashioned an efficient .324 attack percentage in the win.
Defensively, UNE was led by
Nikki Mathewson, who had 11 digs to go with three aces. Janelle added 10 digs for the Nor'easters, who topped the hosts 50-28 in that category.
Kortney Jenkins had a team-high seven kills for Eastern Nazarene.
