FORT MYERS, Fla. -- The University of New England needed just five innings to put away St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn, chalking up an 11-0 shutout on Monday (Mar. 17) at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Softball Classic.
Big Blue (3-3) received a solid outing from first-year
Katelyn Austin in the circle, fanning six while allowing just two hits and a walk.
Senior
Amanda Vaudreuil and sophomore
Jess Lemos each had two hits to pace the attack, which was aided by eight free passes surrendered by Bears' pitching. Lemos drove in two as the Nor'easters scored four in the top of the 1st inning, when UNE sent eight batters to the plate.
Vaudreuil has now hit safely in all six games so far this season.
Sophomore
Meghan Bolano and first-year
Kalie Hernandez -- who had an RBI-triple in the 3rd -- both plated two runs for Big Blue.
Jamilynn McGowan was tagged with the setback for St. Joseph's (0-2).
The Nor'easters get Tuesday off before returning to action Wednesday morning for contests against the College of Wooster (Ohio) and UMass Dartmouth.
