CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- Smith College scored three runs in the 4th, 5th, and 6th innings to defeat the University of New England, 9-3, on Sunday (Mar. 16) at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Softball Classic.

For the Pioneers (2-0), Caroline Kushner went 3-of-4 at the plate with two RBI and two runs scored. Joanna Giordano also had three hits, and Brittney Blokker drove in a pair. Allison Snyder and Edie Richardson added two runs apiece.

In the circle, Natalie Burchat fanned seven and walked none for the Smith win in 5 2/3 innings of work.

The Nor'easters (1-3) received three hits from sophomore Amanda Vallante and two more from senior Amanda Vaudreuil. Sophomore Lauren Doneski struck out four in the loss.
