Leah Janelle added eight winners along with five aces to help lead the University of New England to a 3-0 win over Curry College in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's volleyball action Tuesday evening (Oct. 14) at the Harold Alfond Forum. Set scores were 25-14, 25-12, and 25-7.
Big Blue (8-12) moves to 3-1 in CCC contests, while the Colonels drop back to 6-16 overall (0-5 CCC). The Nor'easters have swept Curry in each of the four all-time meetings.
First-year
Brooke Gibbons setup the UNE attack with 26 assists. Classmate
Courtney Lambrese chipped in with five kills in seven attempts, and put up three blocks. Sophomore
Nikki Mathewson had a team-high eight digs, while first-year
Teddi Kramer and Janelle recorded six apiece.
For Curry, sophomore Kayla Pedersen registered four kills, and classmate Makayla Hughes notched eight assists. Sophomore Nicole Grambley, along with first-years Courtney Carroll and Taylor Faieta, combined for 21 digs.
Both squads will be at home for non-conference matches on Thursday, with the Nor'easters entertaining Saint Joseph's College (6:30 p.m.) and the Colonels facing Mount Ida College (6 p.m.).
