Box Score

MANCHESTER, N.H. -- Johnny Daniels scored with 4:38 remaining to break a 4-all tie, and Saint Anselm College added an empty-net goal in the final minute to take a 6-4 ECAC East win over University of New England in a men's ice hockey game played Friday night (Jan. 10) at Sullivan Arena.

Daniels. who would later add the empty-netter after UNE had pulled junior goaltender Colby Drost for an extra skater, rescued the Hawks with his team-leading sixth goal 15:22 into the final period. The Hawks (5-5-2, 3-3-2 ECAC East) had led 4-2 heading into the final frame before UNE (5-9-1, 2-6-0) rallied to make things interesting.

The Nor'easters' comeback came thanks in large part to Nick Kolb. The junior forward converted a pair of power-play goals in the early stages of the third period to help Big Blue erase a 4-2 deficit.

UNE had started the game quickly, building a 2-0 first-period lead. Junior Jared Melman opened the scoring at 9:12 of the first, putting home a power-play goal for his sixth goal of the campaign.

Big Blue would double its advantage a little more than a minute later when Chris Harlow scored his first collegiate goal.

The Hawks scored four second-period goals to halt the Nor'easters' momentum. After Kevin Vanous and Joe Tebano scored 1:06 apart midway through the frame, Jon Ahern and Sean Jenkins tallied in the final minute to give the hosts a two-goal (4-2) margin.

For the game, Saint Anselm established a commanding lead in shots on goal (47-21), while Nick Dries had 17 saves to record the win between the pipes.

Drost turned aside 41 shots for UNE, which converted three power-play goals as the Hawks were whistled for 10 infractions totaling 39 penalty minutes.

The Nor'easters head to Henniker, N.H. tomorrow for a 4 p.m. game with New England College.
