Hawks down Nor'easters to claim RWU Invite

Box Score

BRISTOL, R.I. -- Roger Williams University needed just nine sets to capture its own women's volleyball invitational Saturday (Sep. 8), closing with a 3-0 win over the University of New England. The scores were 25-18, 25-23, and 25-9.

The loss was the first of the year for the Nor'easters (4-1), who landed senior Paige Curran (Chelmsford, Mass.) and junior Maria Kuehl (Middleton, N.H.) on the All-Tournament Team.

Kuehl tallied 16 assists and seven digs in the match -- matched in digs by classmate Kirsta Adie (Tyngsboro, Mass.). Junior Angie Brunette (North Andover, Mass.) posted a team-high six kills.

The second-place finish at the RWU Invitational marked the first time in eight years that UNE had won two matches at the event, as well as the first time in the last four that Big Blue came away with even one victory against the same group of teams.

The Nor'easters are back at it Tuesday on the road at Bowdoin College (7 p.m.).
