BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Senior
Dylan Thomas (Mount Pleasant, N.Y.) totaled five points and sophomore Dan O'Gorman (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) controlled 14 ground balls while going 15-for-17 on face-offs to help lead the University of New England to an 11-6 win over Nichols College in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's lacrosse match Saturday afternoon (Apr. 7) at the Big Blue Turf.
UNE halted a two-game losing streak to get back over the .500 mark at 7-6 overall, 2-2 in CCC matches. Nichols lost its third straight contest to drop to 3-7 (1-4 CCC).
Leading 3-0 after one period, the Nor'easters outscored Nichols 3-1 in the second frame to establish a 6-1 advantage heading into intermission. The Bison would tally the initial two goals of the third quarter to close within three (6-3), but Big Blue responded with the final three markers of the period and two early in the fourth to put the game away.

Matt Anderson (St. Paul, Minn.) and sophomore
Patrick Wolfe (Phippsburg, Maine) also notched a pair of goals.
O'Gorman came up with 12 ground balls in the first half on his way to a career-best 14. He was supported by a career-high nine pick-ups by Anderson. As a team, UNE held a huge advantage in that department (59-27), as well as shots (59-24) and face-offs won (19-2).
Senior
Nate Porter (Cohasset, Mass.) played the first three quarters in the cage to earn the victory for the Nor'easters. He saved 10 shots on goal.
Junior Macauley Gillis (Northborough, Mass.) scored two goals and had one assist to lead the Nichols offense. Senior goalkeeper Scott Gray (Annapolis, Md.) had a busy afternoon between the pipes, making 20 saves.
Both teams return to action Wednesday. UNE hosts a CCC match versus Gordon College at 7 p.m., while the Bison entertain Salve Regina University (7 p.m.).
