ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The University of New England women's swimming team finished 11th out of 19 teams on Sunday (Feb. 26), as the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Open Swimming & Diving Championships concluded at Lejeune Hall on the campus of the U.S. Naval Academy. UNE totaled 47 points over the three-day event, which was won by host Navy.

Five Big Blue individuals and three Nor'easter relays qualified for a combined 10 events in the meet, that included teams from across all three NCAA divisions.

The 400-yard medley of seniors Jessica Sweeney (Hampton, N.H.), Sara Shea (Peabody, Mass.), and Lizzie Wareham (Osterville, Mass.), and junior Amy Miele (Queensbury, N.Y.) notched the first of six new team records for UNE, clocking a 4:03.67 in the event finals to best the mark set by the same group last weekend at the New England Championships by 4.04 seconds. During the lead-off leg of the race (100 backstroke), Sweeney also topped her own program record from six day earlier by nearly one second (1:00.68).

On day two, Sweeney posted a 1:00.65 in the actual 100 back event prelim to even further lower the record she set the previous night.

Shea registered two records during the same race on Saturday -- the 100 breaststroke. Her full time of 1:08.97 was 1.13 seconds better than the time she recorded last week, and her 50-yard split (32.79) bettered her own mark of 33.02 that was established back during the 2008-09 season.

Sweeney and Shea each set another program standard during preliminary swims on Sunday. Sweeney went for 2:12.13 in the 200 back, besting the time (2:12.32) set by sophomore Jenn LaComfora (Worcester, Mass.) at this season's New Englands. Shea knocked off her own 200 breaststroke time of 2:28.30 by touching the wall 1.1 seconds faster than she had a week earlier.

The Nor'easters ended their year with a 10-2 ledger in head-to-head meets and finished in the top 10 (7th) at the New England Championships for the sixth time in program history (8 seasons). All-in-all, 12 team records fell to better performances during the 2011-12 season.
