WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, Vt. -- The University of New England women's swimming team finished in the 7th spot out of 22 teams with 569 points at the New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving Association (NEISDA) Championships, as the three-day meet wrapped up Sunday at the Upper Valley Aquatics Center.

Bentley University (1,552.5), Keene State College (1,358), and Assumption College (1,061.5) claimed the top three places in the competition, and were followed by Eastern Connecticut State University (773.5), Roger Williams University (672), and Saint Michael's College (623) prior to the Nor'easters' total.

Big Blue registered nine all-New England performances and 10 new team records during the Championships, receiving contributions from six individuals along the way.

Junior Amy Miele (Queensbury, N.Y.) accounted for three all-NE finishes, which came in the 50-yard freestyle (5th), 50 butterfly (5th), and 100 fly (6th). Her times in the 100 fly (1:00.03) and 50 free (25.30) were good for an ECAC A-Cut and ECAC B-Cut, respectively.

Senior Sara Shea (Peabody, Mass.) took home two all-NE medals, and brought down three team records (all her own) in the process. She finished 6th in 200 breaststroke with a team record/ECAC A-Cut time of 2:28.30, which was 3.62 seconds faster than her time set back in her first year (2008-09). Shea's other all-NE showing was in the 400 individual medley (7th), and her preliminary qualifying time of 4:51.99 was an impressive 7.23 seconds than her previous best (2008-09) -- again, a school record. Coming into the weekend, Shea's personal mark in 100 breast was 1:10.59 from three seasons ago (2008-09), and she topped that one too, with a 1:10.10 in the event finals.

Like Shea, sophomore Jenn LaComfora (Worcester, Mass.) had a pair of all-NE performances during the meet. In the 200 backstroke (6th in the finals), her prelim qualifying time of 2:12.32 was not only an ECAC A-Cut mark, but it also clipped the team record held by now senior Jessica Sweeney (Hampton, N.H.) set last year by 2.75 seconds. LaComfora also placed 4th in the 100 IM, and put down an ECAC B-Cut time in the 100 back (1:01.75).

Sweeney had an all-NE finish just behind LaComfora in the 200 back (7th), touching the wall in 2:13.49 for an ECAC B-Cut. Additionally, Sweeney logged a team record of her own in prelims of the 100 back (1:01.58), besting the mark of 1:01.89 established by Courtney Burdick '09 back in 2005-06.

Senior Lizzie Wareham (Osterville, Mass.) achieved all-NE status in the 100 fly (7th) behind Miele.

But, on top of the quality individual efforts from UNE, it was in the relays where the Nor'easters' squad really made their mark. By the end of the weekend, all five team records had fallen, and three ECAC A-Cut times were posted.

Two medley relay groups topped times from earlier this season on their way to ECAC A-Cuts. The 400-yard (Sweeney, Shea, Miele, and Wareham) clocked a 4:07.71 to smash the 4:16.47 previous record, and the 200-yard (LaComfora, Shea, Wareham, and Miele) raced to a 1:54.69 that was 2.54 seconds better than before.

The third relay to make an ECAC A-Cut was the 200 free (Wareham, LaComfora, Sweeney, and Miele), which punched a 1:41.61 that displaced a six-year-old mark (2005-06) by 1.8 seconds.

Junior Rachel Hanley (Wiscasset, Maine) joined the cause for the 400 free- and 800 free relays that broke school records. The 800 free (Sweeney, Shea, Hanley, and LaComfora) took down a time from 2008-09 by 5.1 seconds with an 8:25.32. The 400 free (Miele, Hanley, LaComfora, and Wareham) notched a 4:45.42 to trump the previous best by 2.61 seconds -- a time recorded back during the 2006-07 season.

Miele, Shea, LaComfora, Sweeney, and Wareham will now head to the ECAC Championships meet this weekend (Feb. 24-26) at the U.S. Naval Academy in Maryland.

For the men's club team, Zach Wagner was named the Senior High Point Swimmer in the meet, and captured the New England title (1st) in the 50-yard breaststroke. His prelim time topped the 28-man field, and he followed through with an even faster time later in the final. The team, in all, broke 13 school records.
