Meet Results

BIDDEOFRD, Maine -- Junior Amy Miele (Queensbury, N.Y.) and senior Sara Shea (Peabody, Mass.) each recorded three individual wins to pace the University of New England women's swimming team in a 147-113 victory over Colby-Sawyer College Saturday afternoon at the Campus Center.

The Nor'easters improve to 9-2 on the season, while the Chargers fall for just the second time this year (6-2).

Miele captured the 100-yard butterfly (1:02.99), the 100 backstroke (1:06.32), and the 100 individual medley (1:05.94), and Shea took the 200 freestyle (2:09.52) as well as the 50- (33.78) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:12.25) events. Shea touched the wall a mere 0.06 seconds ahead of Colby-Sawyer sophomore Erin Dunican (Bennington, Vt.) in the 50 breast, who also placed second to Shea in the 100 breast.

Seniors Jessica Sweeney (Hampton, N.H.) and Lizzie Wareham (Osterville, Mass.) also won events to help the UNE cause. Sweeney was first in the 50 back (31.40) by 0.69 seconds, and Wareham claimed the 50 fly (29.57) by 1.44 seconds.

For the Chargers, first-year Krystyna Estrada (Lebanon, N.H.) and junior Emily Olson (Lynn, Mass.) had two wins apiece, combining to take four of the five freestyle races on the day. Estrada edged Wareham in the 50 free (25.71) by 0.41 seconds, and later won the 100 free (58.20). Olson touched first in the 500 free (5:59.93) and 1,000 free (12:16.47) events.

Colby-Sawyer also notched wins in both of the highly-contested relay events -- the 200 medley relay (2:02.09) by 1.21 seconds, and the 200 freestyle relay (1:47.64) by 0.59 seconds.

Both squads have one more dual meet next Saturday (Feb. 4) before the New England Championships in three weeks. UNE hosts Elms College, and the Chargers head to square off with the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.
