Box Score
NORTHFIELD, Vt. -- Three players scored two goals apiece as the No. 1 Norwich University Cadets skated to a 10-2 quarterfinal-round win over the eighth-seed University of New England Nor'easters, as the ECAC East Men's Hockey League Tournament began Saturday evening at Kreitzberg Arena.
Norwich (18-5-3) -- the nation's third-ranked team in the latest USCHO.com poll -- moves on to face No. 6 University of Southern Maine (a 4-1 upset winner over third-seeded UMass Boston) in the semifinals on Friday.
Sophomores Scott Schroeder (Drake, Saskatchewan) and Tory Allan (Davidson, Saskatchewan), along with junior Emmond Bell (Nepean, Ontario) each netted a pair of tallies for the Cadets, who ran their unbeaten streak to 10 games.
First-year Shane Gorman (Trumbull, Conn.) notched three assists for the hosts, who out-shot the Nor'easters by a 50-7 margin. Classmate Parker Carroll (West Chester, Pa.) only needed to make four saves in goal to improve to 10-0-2 on the year.
For Big Blue, senior
Jack Nolin (Somersworth, N.H.) and junior
Justin Miner (Stratham, N.H.) found the back of the net to account for the UNE scoring. Between the pipes, first-year
Connor Brogan (Hershey, Pa.) and senior
Mike Roper (New Glasgow, Nova Scotia) split the 60 minutes and recorded 20 stops each.
Nolin scored just past the midway point of the first period to cut the Norwich lead in half (2-1), before Schroeder put in what would be the game-winner a little over a minute later.
The Cadets pocketed five scores in the second, and led by nine (10-1) in the third before surrendering the final goal of the contest to Miner.
UNE concludes its season with twice as many victories as last year, at 6-19 overall.
