Hamilton's huge second period provides 10-7 victory

Sophomore Tyler Fleurent had a goal and two assists for the Nor'easters in a 10-7 loss

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Hamilton College scored eight times in the second period to break open the game on its way to a 10-7 victory over the University of New England in NESCAC/ECAC East crossover game played Saturday afternoon at Biddeford Arena.

Junior Bryan Kelly (Plymouth, Mass.), sophomore Joe Houk (Richboro, Pa.) and first-year Micheal DiMare (Medford, Mass.) each scored two goals -- all in the decisive second frame -- to lead the way for the Continentals (9-5-4, 7-3-3 NESCAC).

Senior Joe Buicko (Altamont, N.Y.), junior Anthony Scarpino (Meadville, Pa.) and first-years Andrew Morrison (Bridgewater, Nova Scotia) and Nick Anderson (Port Coquiltlam, British Columbia) added a goal apiece for Hamilton. Houk dished out three assists to complete a five-point afternoon, while sophomore Andrew White (Franklin, Mass.) added three helpers.

Seven different players notched a goal for the Nor'easters (3-14, 1-12 ECAC), including senior Jack Nolin (Somersworth, N.H.), juniors Kyle MacLennan (New Glasgow, Nova Scotia) and Mike Tiano (Dover, N.H.), sophomores Tyler Fleurent (Biddeford, Maine) and Scott McManaman (Amherst, Nova Scotia), and first-years Zach Lokey (Elizabethtown, Pa.) and Sean Sullivan (Worcester, Mass.).

Fleurent and Sullivan each handed out a pair of assists for the Nor'easters. who were outshot 35-16 for the contest. Hamilton struck five times on the power play, with each tally coming in the second frame.

Starting goaltender Scott Hefferman (Warwick, R.I.) picked up the win with four saves in 40 minutes of playing time. Sophomore Cam Gibbar (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) and first-year Joe Quattrocchi (Kanata, Ontario) each saw time between the pipes in the third.

UNE first-year Connor Brogan (Hersey, Pa.) made 10 saves before giving way to senior Mike Roper (New Glasgow, Nova Scotia) in the second period. Roper made 15 stops.

The Nor'easters return to action Tuesday with a non-league home game versus Franklin Pierce University (7 p.m.). Hamilton hosts Colby College at 7 p.m. next Friday.
