BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The University of New England men's hockey team scored three third-period goals to skate to a 5-2 triumph over Amherst College and pick up its first ECAC East win of the season in an ECAC East/NESCAC crossover game Friday evening at Biddeford Arena.
The Nor'easters (1-11 ECAC East) improve to 3-13 overall, while the Lord Jeffs drop to 7-6-4 overall (5-4-3 NESCAC).
Tied at 2-2 entering the final frame, UNE first-year

Tyler Fleurent (Biddeford, Maine) with just under nine minutes remaining.
Big Blue doubled the margin 1:34 later, when junior
Justin Miner (Stratham, N.H.) poked home a rebound in front to make it 4-2. With 1:17 left on the clock, first-year
Zach Lokey (Elizabethtown, Pa.) added an empty net goal to seal the victory for the hosts.
UNE jumped on the board first at 14:01 of the opening period, as Sullivan found senior
Jack Nolin (Somersworth, N.H.). Sophomore
Russ Franey (York, Maine) also assisted on the power play goal.
Amherst answered right back just 26 seconds later, as senior Trip Wray (Walpole, Mass.) scored his first of two on the night. The visitors held a 15-8 edge in shots on goal during the period, but the teams went into the first intermission locked at 1-1.
The Nor'easters' power play struck again 2:34 into the middle stanza, when sophomore
Paul Kashmanian (Grand Island, N.Y.) scored his first goal of the season to give UNE a 2-1 advantage.
Wray pulled the Lord Jeffs back even seven minutes later, leaving things all knotted up after two periods.
UNE senior netminder
Mike Roper (New Glasgow, Nova Scotia) posted 37 saves to earn the win.
Amherst sophomore goalie Nathan Corey (Anchorage, Alaska) made 21 stops in just over 51 minutes of action, before giving way to senior Cole Anderson (Sylvan Lake, Alberta) to wrap things up.
Both teams return to the ice tomorrow afternoon. The Nor'easters entertain NESCAC member Hamilton College at 3 p.m., while the Lord Jeffs swing over to the University of Southern Maine for a 4 p.m. start.
