WATERVILLE, Maine -- The University of New England used a 34-3 run spanning across the final four minutes of the opening period and the first eight of the second half to seize control and pull away to a 78-46 non-conference victory over Thomas College in women's basketball action Thursday evening at Mahaney Gymnasium.
With the win, the Nor'easters (9-3) push their unbeaten streak to four games. The Terriers remain winless on the season at 0-7.

Kelley Paradis (Newport, Maine) led the way for UNE with 16 points and six rebounds. Classmate

Senior
Katie Diggins (Merrimack, N.H.) collected a game-high 12 rebounds for the Nor'easters, who out-rebounded the hosts, 55-32.
Thomas received 13 points and six boards from senior Jessica Nassetta (Standish, Maine). Junior Kellie Martel (Cambridge, Maine) had 12 points and six rebounds.
After 10 lead changes in the first 13:15 of the contest, the Terriers scored back-to-back hoops to grab a slim four-point cushion (22-18). Martel had 10 points in the early-going.
The teams exchanged baskets over the next few minutes to where Thomas held a 26-22 edge with 4:04 left in the first half. From there the visitors took over, scoring the final nine points of the frame to take a 31-26 advantage into the break.
UNE picked up in the second where it left off before intermission, racing out to 25 points in 7:50 to go up 56-29 and put the contest out of reach. Russell recorded 11 of her 12 points during the stretch.
The lead peaked at 40 (74-34) with just over five minutes remaining, as the Nor'easters went 17-for-35 (48.6 percent) from the floor in the period. Thomas managed just 28 percent (7 of 25) shooting in the half.
UNE will open The Commonwealth Coast Conference play Saturday at New England College (1 p.m.). The Terriers also begin league competition Saturday in the North Atlantic Conference with a visit to UMaine Farmington.
