BRUNSWICK, Maine -- Senior Mark Phillips and sophomore Will Hanley combined for 39 points and 23 rebounds to lead the Bowdoin College men's basketball team to an 80-64 non-conference victory over the University of New England on Tuesday evening at Morrell Gymnasium.
Bowdoin (2-1) used its decided height advantage to earn a 49-29 margin on the boards and outscore UNE in the paint, 60-6.
The 6'8" Phillips was 8-for-10 from the floor en route to a game-high 20 points. He grabbed six of his eight rebounds on the offensive end. Hanley, a 6'7" guard/forward, made 9 of 15 field goal attempts and collared a total of 15 boards (6 offensive).
The Polar Bears also received strong performances from O'Connell, who knocked down four 3-pointers to finish with 18 points, as well as Paul Sellew, who registered 10 points.

Marcus Winn scored a team-high 14 points -- including four treys -- for the Nor'easters (2-3). Junior
Kadare Brown had 11 points, three assists and three steals, while sophomores
Quentin Thompson and
Anthony Johnson tossed in 10 points apiece.
Trailing 16-15 just over five minutes into the contest, the hosts used a three-pointer by Ryan O'Connell to take the lead for good and trigger a 21-7 spurt that enabled them to assume a 36-23 advantage with 5:47 remaining in the frame.
The Nor'easters were able to chip away and trail by just six (43-37) at the break.
Bowdoin shot 51.6 percent (16 of 31) in the second half to keep its lead the rest of the way.
For the game, the Polar Bears snagged 20 offensive caroms, leading to 28 second-chance points. UNE countered by making 14 three-pointers.
The Nor'easters are idle until after the holiday when they head to Colby College on Dec. 1 for a 7 p.m. game.
