Gamache's torrid shooting helps UNE handle Thomas

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Senior point guard #Alli Gamache# (Dudley, Mass.) made a school-record nine 3-point field goals on her way to a career-high 29 points, as the University of New England Nor'easters raced to a 116-67 victory over the Thomas College Terriers in non-conference women's basketball action Thursday evening at the Campus Center.

It was Gamache who set the tone early for the Nor'easters, making her first five three-point attempts to help UNE take control from the outset.  She buried three treys in a 2:19 stretch midway through the first frame as the Nor'easters built a 35-16 lead.

Gamache and the Nor'easters continued their long-range assault in the second frame, making 8 of 12 shots from beyond the arc, including 3 of 4 accuracy from Gamache.  Her record-setting three came with 14:40 to play and gave UNE a 75-43 lead.

Gamache's performance broke the previous mark of eight threee-point field goals in a game shared by Karen Bailey '93 and Amanda Brown Carroll '04.  Gamache was 9 of 11 from beyond the arc and added six assists in just 22 minutes of playing time.  

First-year forward #Margo Russell# (Madison, Maine) had 16 points for UNE, while classmate #Kari Pelletier# (South Paris, Maine) utilized a 13-for-13 performance at the free throw line to score 15 points.  Senior forward #Sara Pelkey# (Barre, Vt.) added 14 points and six rebounds.  First-year forward #Hillary Laferriere# (Veazie, Maine) finished with eight points and game-best 11 boards.

The Nor'easters dominated the stat sheet, shooting 52.1 percent (37 of 71) from the floor, including a torrid 68.2 percent (15 of 22) effort from three-point land.  UNE also held a 53-28 rebounding cushion.

Senior guard Amy Miles (Waldo, Maine) led Thomas with 18 points, including four 3-point field goals.  Junior guard Jess Nassetta (Standish, Maine) supported with 12 points.

UNE (7-5) will open its The Commonwealth Coast Conference schedule Saturday when New England College comes to Biddeford for a 1:00 p.m. contest.

Next up for the Terriers (2-6) is a home game versus Smith College on Sunday.
