Sophomore Matt Veiga placed 11th to help UNE to a third-place finish in its season-opener

STANDISH, Maine -- The University of New England men's cross country team placed third out of four teams at the St. Joseph's College Running Monks Early-Bird Race.
UNE totaled 70 points to trail champion University of Southern Maine (19) and the host Monks (60). New England College placed fourth with a team score of 94.
Matt Veiga was the first Nor'easter to cross the finish line. He recorded a time of 17:34 over the five-kilometer course to place 11th.
Bosco Oringa ran a solid 18:30 to place 21st.
Josh Havelin (26th),
Dan Kelleher (27th) and
Josh Grenier (29th) rounded out the scorers for UNE.
The Nor'easters will host their own invitational Sept. 13 at Rotary Park in Biddeford. Start time for the men's race is slated for 11:30 a.m.
