Libby lifts UNE to title game of Keene State Tourney

UNE head coach Anthony Ewing get a crack at his alma mater Saturday in the finals of the Keene State Tournament
KEENE, N.H. -- Sophomore guard Lyndie Libby came off the bench to score nine points in the final 10:01 to help the University of New England Nor'easters secure a spot in the championship game of the Keene State College Tip-Off Tournament with a 65-59 win over SUNY-Potsdam on Friday.

The victory moves the Nor'easters (2-1) into a title game showdown Saturday with the host Owls (3:00 p.m.), an 80-49 winner over Johnson and Wales University in Friday's other opening-round contest.  It will also carry special significance for UNE head coach Anthony Ewing, a Keene State graduate and former assistant coach.

With her team trailing by one with just under five minutes to play, Libby drained a three-pointer to give the Nor'easters the lead (55-53) for good.  Keene State would try and rally late, but a key baseline jumper by first-year guard Kari Pelletier with 30 seconds left provided UNE with a 62-57 advantage and sealed the win.

Libby finished with 13 points to match first-year forward Margo Russell for team-high honors.  Pelletier contributed 11 points, thanks in part to a 7-for-8 performance at the free throw line.  Senior forward Sara Pelkey pitched in with 10 points and six rebounds.

UNE struggled from beyond the three-point arc (2 of 18) but was able to out-rebound the Bears, 45-40, and make 19 of 23 attempts from the free throw line.

Maureen Curley had 13 points and 10 boards to pace SUNY-Potsdam (0-1).  Cortney Poirier added 13 points and a pair of steals.
