BRISTOL, R.I. -- The University of New England Nor'easters posted an impressive second-place showing Saturday at the Roger Williams University Cross Country Invitational hosted at Colt State Park.
The host Hawks won their own event, recording a team score of 35 in the 11-team meet. UNE (102) nipped third-place Johnson and Wales University (106) by four points. Daniel Webster College (126) and Rhode Island College (132) rounded out the Top 5.
Leading the way for the Nor'easters once again was Matt Veiga, who earned third place with an eight-kilometer time of 28:05.
Josh Grenier (17th - 29:39) and Bosco Oringa (22nd - 29:59) each offered Top 25 performances. Dan Kelleher and Josh Havelin also earned points for UNE.
Roger Williams stalwart Kevin Clark took home the first-place trophy. He ran 27:21 to nip Newbury College's Herrel Siller by three seconds.
The Nor'easters will compete in the State of Maine Championship next Saturday. The event will be held at Twin Brook Recreation Center in Cumberland. The starting gun is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
