QUINCY, Mass. -- University of New England guard/forward #Johnnie Jefferson# '09 (Dallas, Texas) scored a career-high 30 points on 11-for-13 shooting to help the Nor'easters to an 81-67 road win over Eastern Nazarene College in The Commonwealth Coast Conference men's basketball action Wednesday evening at Lahue Recreation Center.
The win is the third in the last four games for the Nor'easters, who improve to 9-7 overall and 3-1 in TCCC games. The Crusaders drop to 4-11 overall, 1-3 in conference play.
The Nor'easters converted a remarkable 75.0 percent (18 of 24) of their first-half field goal attempts in building a 44-34 advantage.
They would cool off slightly in the second half but still managed to make 29 of 42 attempts on the evening. UNE was 7-for-11 from 3-point land.
Jefferson was 4 of 5 from beyond the arc on his way to 30 points in just 24 minutes of floor time. #Jaykyri Simpson# '09 (East Cleburne, Texas) supported with 21 points, six rebounds and four assists. #Steve Belmonte# '09 (Levittown, N.Y.) had 16 points and seven assists, while #Chas Rentrope# '11 (Peoria, Ariz.) chipped in 10 points and eight steals.
Jeremy Hueston '08 (Brunswick, Md.) led five Eastern Nazarene players in double figures with 14 points. Jean-Paul Marcellus '08 (Dorchester, Mass.) registered a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
The Nor'easters return to action Saturday when they entertain Anna Maria College for a TCCC contest tipping off at 3:00 p.m.
