Hunt has led the men's lacrosse program at UNE for seven seasons now, having just completed the most successful campaign in school history. The Nor'easters exceeded the previous single-season record for wins by two (10), and 2012 was the first time Big Blue finished with at least a .500 winning percentage.
In addition, Hunt's 2012 squad earned UNE's first-ever right to host a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) tournament game, as well as the program's first appearance in the ECAC Division III New England Championship, where the Nor'easters finished second to Endicott. In the latter stages of the season, Big Blue downed Gordon, 9-8, in double overtime -- UNE's first-ever win against the Fighting Scots in the 16th all-time meeting between the teams.
Under the direction of Hunt, the men's lacrosse program has equalled or bettered the single-season win total in each of the last four seasons, while qualifying to the CCC Championship for the first four times in school history.
In his first season (2006), he led the Nor'easters to five wins, matching the highest win total the program had seen in more than 10 years.
Prior to UNE, Hunt served a two-year stint at NCAA Division III Colby College, where he was both the assistant lacrosse coach and assistant men’s soccer coach. Before joining the Mules' staff, he was an assistant coach with the NCAA Division I Quinnipiac University lacrosse program, and was freshman coach at Daniel Hand High School in Connecticut.
A native of Guilford, Conn., Hunt is a 2000 graduate of Plymouth State University with a bachelor's degree in business management. While playing lacrosse for the NCAA Division III Panthers, he was named PSU Male Athlete of the Year in 2000.
Hunt serves on the NCAA Men's Lacrosse Rules Committee, is the men's lacrosse committee chair for the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC), and is Treasurer for the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA).
Within the Athletics Department, Hunt is part of the Academic Support team. He and his wife, Jessica, live in Biddeford with their son, Sam.
Jon Hunt on UNE: "The University of New England is a strong vibrant community. Our beautiful location, wonderful faculty and staff, and strong academics combine with athletics to provide each student-athlete with a positive learning experience. I feel that athletics is an extension of the overall educational experience and can enhance the student-athlete's ability to develop leadership skills, work cooperatively with teammates toward a common goal, and to deal with both success and adversity. Our lacrosse program attracts student-athletes that possess the enthusiasm and desire to compete at the highest level. We are driven by a hard-working, never-settling attitude and passion for the game. The goals of the Nor'easters' lacrosse team is to achieve regional and national recognition in the classroom, as well as on the field."
