Mules turn back UNE, 3-1

Statistics

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Colby College scored three times in the second half to come away with a 3-1 decision against the University of New England field hockey team under a steady drizzle under the lights at Blue Bolt Field on Monday evening (Sep. 28).

The Mules (4-3) move above .500 for the fourth time this season, while setback puts a halt on the three-game unbeaten run by UNE (4-5).

Things went scoreless in the opening 30 minutes, with Riley Curtin making five stops for the Nor'easters to keep it that way, including a kick-save in the waning seconds of the 2nd quarter [Watch].

Alex Hood shifted the visitors in front in the 34th minute, only to see Riley Zielinski answer for UNE just 32 ticks later. Gianna Korisianos received a penalty corner insert at the top and swept one intentionally wide right for Zielinski to tip back inside the near post for her first tally of the year [Watch].

However, Colby countered with scores off of rebounds in the 44th and 49th minutes to regain the edge. Bridget Waters converted the go-ahead marker, after Curtin's seventh and final save of the night. The insurance goal came following a shot by Hood that was blocked by the stick of Ella Reeves, and Bridget Everett collected the loose ball for the finish at the left post.

Ginna Jacoby backstopped the positive result for the Mules without recording a save; Colby had a 13-3 advantage in shot attempts.

The Nor'easters get back to Conference of New England (CNE) action on Saturday with a visit to the University of Hartford.
