WEST HARTFORD, Conn. --
Kate Kelso netted a pair of goals to help lead the University of New England to a 5-0 Conference of New England (CNE) field hockey triumph over the University of Hartford on Saturday (Oct. 3) at Al-Marzook Field.
The Nor'easters (5-5) improve to 3-1 in league play with the win, while the Hawks (3-7) remain winless in three outings.
Kelso's first tally opened the scoring just 2:01 after the initial whistle, and
Corinne Ramunno padded the cushion before the end of the 1st quarter.
UNE kept the pressure on all day and racked up large advantages in shots (30-4) and penalty corners (13-1), but the margin was still just 2-0 until the final five minutes of the match, when the visitors piled it on.
Ella Reeves and Kelso made it 4-0, and then
Alexa Caccamo notched her first collegiate goal with 26 seconds left.
"Today was a total team effort," noted UNE head coach Danielle Collins. "We worked hard from start to finish, and every player had a part in this win."
Ramunno contributed an assist, as did
Riley Zielinski,
Isabel Culver, and
Josie Johnson.
Riley Curtin made three saves in 50 minutes of action on the other end, before fellow rookie
Maia Cote saw the clean sheet to the end.
Nicole Ciampa was kept busy in front of the Hartford cage, totaling 19 stops.
The Nor'easters are back at home to face Keene State College on Tuesday (5 p.m.)
