FALMOUTH, Maine -- Roger Williams University remained perfect on the year with a 7-0 Conference of New England (CNE) result versus the University of New England on Saturday (Sep. 26) at Foreside Fit Tennis Club.
Right out of the gate, the Nor'easters were up at #2 doubles (2-1) -- with
Andie Lamontagne and
Sofia Salcedo Ladaga -- and level (1-1) in the other two contests, before the Hawks (8-0, 4-0 CNE) finished the session strong to claim the initial point.
Lamontagne offered the best battle for UNE at #3 singles, with leads in the first set (3-2) and second frame (4-3). It was a grind, and the last match to finish, but RWU's Megan Bache came away with a 6-4, 6-4 decision.
Madeline Frank was even at 3-all in the first set at #1 singles, but ended with four games total in the match. Salcedo Ladaga also collected four hard-fought games at #5 singles.
The Nor'easters (4-3, 1-3 CNE) will get back to work on Sunday at the University of Maine-Augusta.
