BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Plymouth State University collected a 3-0 women's volleyball result (25-19, 25-21, 25-21) against the University of New England at Coach Beaudry's Court inside the Harold Alfond Forum on Wednesday evening (Sep. 23).

The Panthers (8-3) used a balanced attack and timely serving to apply pressure on their opponents, while having less kills, hitting efficiency, blocks, and digs. Sydney Riley tallied seven kills to lead PSU, while Danielle Emerson provided 13 assists. Alice Borriello Diaz had a match-best three aces, and Sya McKay registered three blocks. Christa Imbriano scooped up a contest-high 13 digs.

The Nor'easters (4-3) accumulated six more kills (33-27), out-hit Plymouth (.168-.135), made four additional blocks (9-5), and were in position for 12 more digs (50-38) on the night. UNE was hampered, however, by 15 service errors, eight receiving errors, and eight setting miscues.

Hannah Nowell was the only player in double figures with 13 kills for the hosts, and added nine digs. Josie Eliot displayed the highest attack accuracy (.667) -- with eight kills on 12 swings -- and had hands in seven of the team's blocks. Aubrey Young paced the Nor'easter back line with 10 digs, and Hayley Shult contributed nine more to go with her 15 assists.

In the 1st set, the Panthers trailed 13-11 before running off nine of the next 10 points. McKay had a pair of aces and one kill in the latter portion of the stretch. The visitors went on a similar 8-2 spurt in the middle of the 2nd to take an 18-10 edge. UNE got back within four on multiple occasions, and then three at 24-21, only to see PSU notch the next one to move ahead by two sets.

The Nor'easters started 4-1 in the 3rd, but four straight by Plymouth State flipped the margin for good (10-8). McKay and Annalyn Cahill each put down a couple of kills to bump the cushion to 20-12. UNE made one final push with a 7-1 run, erasing three match points, but Maddie Andrade closed things out for the visiting squad.

UNE will face a stiff test on Saturday when traveling to the No.2 ranked program in the national poll, Colby College.
