WATERVILLE, Maine -- The University of New England women's tennis team chalked up a 6-1 decision against Thomas College to begin the 2026 fall season on Tuesday (Sep. 1) at the North Street Courts.
After dropping the initial doubles match, the Nor'easters (1-0) pulled even on the backs of a 6-1 positive result by
Andie Lamontagne and
Sofia Salcedo Ladaga at #3 doubles. The opening point of the overall match then fell for the visitors, as
Madeline Frank and
Nora Hill batted on the #1 doubles line to a 7-6 win (7-1 tiebreaker).
Lamontagne,
Grace Catalano, and Frank wasted little time putting the contest away as action turned to singles and pushed the cushion to 4-0. Lamontagne went 6-0, 6-0 at #4 singles, Catalano began her UNE career with a 6-2, 6-4 win at #3, and Frank rolled to a 6-0, 6-2 margin at #1 singles.
The Terriers (0-1) broke up the shutout on the scoreboard with the next completed match, before
Olivia Crooker at #6 singles (6-2, 6-4) and
Alyssa Fritschka at #5 (2-6, 6-2, 1-0 [10-6]) capped the day for UNE, and the first victory for new head coach,
Adam Reeb.
"It was great that we got contributions from everyone on the team, and we showed some nice poise and composure in some tighter matches, which really helped us come out on top," Reeb commented. "It was a solid start to the fall season and we're excited to build on it."
The Nor'easters are scheduled to kick off their home slate on Thursday (3 p.m.) against the University of Massachusetts-Boston.
