BIDDEFORD, Maine – The University of New England women's soccer team opened its 2026 season with a 4-0 victory over Saint Joseph's College of Maine Tuesday evening on the turf of Blue Storm Stadium. Gillian McGee was responsible for two of the Nor'easters' four tallies.
 
Each of UNE's last four wins a season ago came in shutout fashion, and the Nor'easters (1-0) continued that trend Tuesday, without facing a shot on goal from the Monks (0-1). In addition to McGee's two scores, UNE saw first career goals from both Ailey Mann and Raegan Dillon.
 
"It was good to see the team put together a complete 90-minute game, and I'm proud to start the season with a shutout," said head coach AJ Stueck. "Gillian was terrific tonight and it was fun to see both Ailey and Raegan score their first career goals. Tonight was a strong demonstration of the team's depth this season."
 
Haley Coombs and Sam Kowalick split time in-goal for UNE, and though neither was tasked with making a save, Kowalick soared for an impressive diving stop with four minutes remaining, deflecting a shot that was curling just wide of the left post.
 
McGee had the Nor'easters on the board by the seventh minute (Watch), and Mann extended the lead to 2-0 in the 29th minute, heading Jill Hodgson's corner kick (Watch). Dillon tacked on a third first-half goal in the 42nd minute, handing UNE a commanding halftime edge (Watch). McGee wrapped up the scoring in the 64th minute with a rocket from 20 yards out that found the top-right corner. Tuesday marked the sophomore's first career multi-goal performance, after scoring five goals during her rookie campaign.
 
Emily Talbot registered two assists, having factored in both of McGee's goals.
 
UNE's first road test comes Friday, Sept. 4 when the Nor'easters travel to Springfield for a 4 p.m. kickoff.
